5 ways to improve concentration and study habits

These days, we are all too familiar with online school, working from home, and remote classes. While convenient, we often find ourselves in pajamas trying to get work done from bed or spending hours distracted on youtube. Let’s face it, we are not as motivated to learn without the accountability of going to classes and attending in-person study groups. Even though 2020 has thrown a wrench into what we are familiar with, our studies remain important. Here are our tips on how to improve studying from home during a pandemic.

Step 1: Create your study station

Find a place where you can study away from distractions including the TV,  bed, or other people. You need to find a space where you can buckle down and get work done. Whether this is a desk or a makeshift office, it is important to find a space where you feel comfortable. Turn your phone on silent or set a timer for phone free studying so you won’t go down the rabbit hole of instagram or twitter.

Step 2: Focus

Sometimes we just can’t get into a studying grove or shake that feeling of being distracted. Our Focus CBD oil may help you concentrate. Focus combines pure cannabidiol [CBD] isolate with our patent pending blend of highly targeted terpenes formulated specifically to assist with concentration and attention span. This oil may give you the boost you need to get your work done! Our Focus CBD is THC-free which means it can be used by law enforcement, fire fighters, US military, NCAA athletes and more. Step 3: Drink WATER

Many people chug energy drinks and coffee while studying but did you know the best thing you can drink for concentration is water?  Pretty simple right? A recent study by the University of East London and the University of Westminster found that drinking just 300ml (little over 10oz)  of water can boost attention by up to 25%. By drinking water you will have better hormone regulation, neurotransmitter production and better oxygenated cells resulting in better concentration! So drink up!

Step 4: Set a routine and bedtime

Following routines is the single most important thing to do when nothing else is holding you accountable. When you are required to go to class, you have to set an alarm, get up, get ready, and get out the door. Nothing is holding you to that routine anymore, so find a new routine that gets you ready for the day. It may look like waking up early and having a cup of coffee in peace, or taking the pups out for an early morning walk. A study by Katherine R. Arlinghaus, MS, RD and Craig A. Johnston, PhD showed, “Family routines have been linked to the development of social skills and academic success, and adherence to family routines has been identified as important for family resilience during times of crisis.” So find your routine and stick to it.

Step 5: Go to bed early to rise early

“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise,” said Benjamin Franklin. He was not only a strong advocate for a morning routine but also for going to bed early so he could rise refreshed and ready for the day. To be fair, Benjamin Franklin didn’t have the distractions of today like smartphones, the internet, binge worthy TV shows, and more. However, he knew the importance of getting rest. When we don’t get enough sleep it impairs our executive function. Executive function is the set of abilities we need to do well in school, and at work. A lack of sleep can slow reaction time and hinder focus and attention span. Sleep feeds your creativity and research shows we need sleep to feed our high level, innovative problem solving abilities. As you sleep, connections between brain cells are strengthened and information is transferred to the short term. This aids in studying and learning.

We all know that most people are not getting their recommended 8 hours of sleep each night. However, the quality of sleep matters! A recent study by Matthew P. Walker and Robert Stickgold showed subjects performed 30 percent better on a puzzle after waking up from REM sleep rather than after waking up from non-REM sleep. Research has shown that sleep is essential for helping people solve complex problems, too.

If you are a night owl or find yourself struggling to fall asleep on time, our Tranquility CBD oil could be what you need!  It is designed to aid in helping you fall and stay asleep. Better yet, it doesn’t come with the grogginess of other sleep aids, so you can be your best self the next day.

We hope you find these tips helpful in your journey to adjust to online school and working from home.
